Scripture Reference: “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16 (NKJV)

Every business decision comes with an opportunity cost—the value of what we give up when we choose one path over another. Whether it’s investing in a new venture, hiring a key employee, or spending time on a project, each choice has consequences. Paul reminds us in Ephesians to walk wisely, making the most of our time.

It’s easy to chase every opportunity that looks promising, especially in business. However, not every opportunity is beneficial. Some investments may bring quick profit but pull us away from our long-term vision. Others may seem small but yield great rewards over time. Wise entrepreneurs weigh their options carefully, considering not just immediate gains but the bigger picture.

Jesus also spoke of opportunity costs when He said, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). While business success is important, we must ensure that our choices align with God’s purpose for our lives. Chasing financial gain at the expense of family, faith, or integrity can lead to regret.

Every decision we make has a cost. As business leaders and entrepreneurs, we must seek wisdom, pray for discernment, and be strategic in how we invest our time, energy, and resources.

Reflection Questions:

  • What is an opportunity you’ve pursued that came at the cost of something else? Was it worth it?
  • How do you evaluate opportunities in your business to ensure they align with your values and long-term vision?
  • Are there any areas in your life or business where you need to reconsider your priorities?
