Scripture: Matthew 25:29 – “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”

In the world of business, we often hear about the importance of making the most of our resources, whether that means time, finances, talents, or networks. Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:29 speak directly to this principle, what we might call the “Law of Use: our resources grow when we use them purposefully, but if we let them sit idle, they diminish.

This principle is vividly illustrated in the “Parable of the Talents”. The servants who invested and worked with what they were given saw growth and multiplication. The one who buried his talent, fearing to risk it, lost even what he had. This applies not just to personal talents but also to the resources and opportunities entrusted to us in our businesses and careers. When we take initiative, innovate, and use what we have, we position ourselves to grow. But when we let fear, procrastination, or complacency hold us back, we limit our potential and may lose the very opportunities we hoped to protect.

In business, the Law of Use reminds us that resources aren’t meant to sit dormant. They are intended to be invested. As stewards, we’re responsible not only for safeguarding what we’re given but for finding ways to make it grow. This could mean developing new skills, expanding networks, or even taking a calculated risk on a new project. It’s an active process, fueled by faith and diligence.

Consider: what resources or talents are you not using to their full potential? Is there an area in your business or career where you’ve been playing it safe? God calls us to trust Him with what we have and take faithful steps forward, even if the path feels uncertain. By putting our resources to use, we invite God to bless and multiply them.

Let’s embrace the Law of Use, trusting that as we diligently work with what we have, God will bring increase. Pray for the wisdom to steward your resources wisely and the courage to invest them fully, knowing that God honors faithful action.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Are there any talents, resources, or opportunities in my business or career that I’ve been hesitant to use, and what’s holding me back from putting them to work?
  1. How can I take proactive steps this week to invest in or develop the skills and resources I currently have?
  1. In what ways can I trust God more with the risks involved in using my resources, believing that He will bless faithful action?
