Scripture reference: “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” — Ephesians 5:15-16 NKJV
In the fast-paced world of business, time is one of our most valuable resources. Ephesians 5:15-16 urges us to “walk circumspectly” and “redeem the time,” challenging us to be intentional about how we spend each moment. In today’s world, distractions abound — from endless emails to constant notifications, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But God calls us to approach our time with purpose, using wisdom to focus on what aligns with His will and the goals He has placed on our hearts.
To “redeem the time” in business means evaluating how we spend each hour and focusing our efforts on tasks that bring us closer to our vision. This might mean delegating responsibilities, limiting distractions, or even saying no to opportunities that don’t align with our mission. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” When we align our daily work with God’s purpose, we can find clarity on what truly deserves our attention.
Time management, from a biblical perspective, isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about prioritizing what has eternal value. In business, this translates to focusing not only on tasks that yield profit but also on those that promote integrity, service, and the well-being of others. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” By focusing on God’s priorities, we allow Him to guide our steps, knowing that the details will fall into place.
As we strive to manage our time wisely, we should also remember that each moment is a gift from God. When we approach our daily tasks with a sense of stewardship, we can see even the smallest actions as opportunities to honor Him. Whether it’s a brief conversation with a client, a decision about a project, or time spent in reflection, every moment can become an act of worship.
Today, let’s invite God into our schedules, asking for discernment in how we spend our time. Let’s set priorities that reflect His values and embrace the present moment with intentionality and gratitude. In doing so, we “redeem the time,” allowing each day in business to be a testimony of wise and purposeful living.
Reflection Questions:
- How can I better align my daily tasks and priorities in business with God’s purpose and the mission He has given me?
- What specific distractions or time-wasting habits do I need to address to make more room for what truly matters?
- In what ways can I view each task or interaction as an opportunity to honor God, even in the smallest moments of my workday?
